I don't know if a SSD can die from over heating, I know it has a large, yet limited read/write amount.

I think SD cards can overheat, and break. SD cards are similar to SSDs because they both have Flash memory Microchips, a circuitboard, and many tiny parts.

If the SSD and SD card gets very hot, they can even melt because they have parts which are made of plastic.

I read forum posts of SD card or the SD card reader melting because they maybe defective, and may of been damage by water, or heat from a fire or room heater.

It is best to backup your data to a PC, USB hard drive or online since a SD card can become defective, and melt from hot heat sources like a fire and heater.

doesn't help that everything is mass produced these days, so you never know what you're getting sadly.

There are also a lot of low quality fake products which look like the real products which may also be low quality like some laptops and smartphones which have a reputation of starting fires and exploding.

then there is people like Sony who is buying a bunch of seagate HDDs, slapping their logo over the device and selling it at a higher cost.
