I'm talking off brands, the official brands don't have usable warranty, because it will only repair it if something goes wrong from a manufacture standpoint.

I heard some electronics makers also exchange broken electronics like hard drives with refurbished electronics.

I wouldn't risk hard drive integrity on a refurbish one.

I agree refurbished drives can be risky.

I heard of new hard drives breaking before the warranty. It is best to backup your important files to many external hard drives, hard drives on other computers, tape backup drives, flash drives and discs like DVD+R since disc.

assuming there is a warranty, these days most warranties start at the time its manufactured.
