When you do system back ups of your PC, how long does it take?

Mine is starting to take a few hours now as well. Not sure if using an external SSD would help.

I think external hard drive maybe set to run at a lower speed to prevent overheating.

I think many hard drives have a temperature sensor, and I think the hard drive's firmware or the PC operating system can slowdown the speed of the motor and microchips when the temperature becomes very hot.

Some usb hard drives also use slower 5200 RPM/revolution per minute hard drives which use less power, and may run cooler because they spin slower. 5200 RPM hard drives maybe cheaper since they spin slower than 7200RPM hard drives.

I can see why they would do that, I know with SSDs, they seem to get rather hot at times.
