Optane may use the word SSD because its chips use non-volatile memory chips which can store data when there is no power sort of like SSD and SD cards. But, with RAM, your data is gone after you shutdown or restart a computer, or a power outage.

that's possible, though SSD is more recognized by being an usb type storage, or rather something without moving parts.

I think the SSD term is used when talking about drives which is used for long term storage of files on a storage chip on a device like a SD Card or the storage chip on a smartphone/tablet. I think the term RAM/Memory is used to talk about RAM storage chips which need electricity to temporarily store files and programs until you shutdown or restart your computer when the power is off, and all your files and programs stored on RAM is gone.

Wouldn't SSD be a short (Which is still long in terms of time) in data storage? Since you can only write to a SSD so many times.

I feel the word SSD can be replaced with an icon/symbol in instruction manuals and ads to make it easier people to understand.

SSDs really could use an international symbol to make them stand out from everything else.
