I think older motherboards need a special clamp tool to remove the motherboard BIOS chip, so most people don't have tools for removing the chip.
Replacing the whole motherboard would be easier.
When is it time to upgrade?

And expensive, mother boards won't be cheap with some models.

Maybe sending your motherboard to a motherboard repair shop would be more affordable than replacing the whole board if the BIOS chip got infected with a BIOS virus, and no antivirus or BIOS re-install tool software can remove the BIOS virus.

I know there is no store here in my town, but maybe in the big cities there is.

I heard some BIOS/firmware virus and malware is very hard to remove, so I feel some computer technicians may not know how to remove them, and restore the BIOS to before the virus infection.
I feel Covid19 lockdowns may make it harder to find a local computer technician which can repair BIOS virus infections.

depends on the city, but most stores are still open to simply upgrade the unit itself.

It maybe difficult to get the motherboard you want if Covid19 lockdown are causing motherboard shortages.
