I think if you force the user to answer a random question about a video, picture, or story then spam bots could not answer it as easily.

For example, How many black mice were in the video.

I say a video question would reduce spam bots from joining by 99.5%

Yea it would reduce but generally if it's generated dynamically this will cause greater load on the webserver so for high traffic sites it's not really an option unless they have decent servers.
I never really understood Thursdays.
