Recuva Free file recovery program review

Post by froggyboy604 »

Recuva's homepage: http://www.recuva.com/
Priform: http://www.piriform.com/ makers of CCleaner and Defragger

Image

It works pretty well. I can recover all of my files I intentionally deleted on my flash drive very quickly, and it also can recover files after multiple quick format on a flash drive when I use Recuva in Deep Scan mode.

I like the preview windows to see the thumbnail of the recovered picture.

The multiple view modes are a nice feature since it allows me to view my files in a tree, list and thumbnail structure.

It is easy to export the recovered files to my computer.

The one major limitation is that it can't recover files from a flash drives which I did a full format on.

What I learned from using Recuva. It is simple to undelete files from drives, and it is also easy to recover files from a drive which been quick formated, but imposible to recover files from a drive that been Full formated with Recuva.

It also has a feature to securely overwrite your flash drive files you recover just incase you don't want anyone to easily recover your files. You can overwrite your recover files with 1 pass, 3 passes, 7 passes, or 35 passes.

Pros:

Free
It is easy to use.
Fast for regular scans
User Friendly
Does not slow down pc since it does not use a lot of system resources.
Adware & Spyware Free
Can undelete files with deep scan when drive been quick formated multiple times.
Secure write feature for easily overwriting your recovered files, so it will be harder for people to recover with Recuva, or with software similar to Recuva.
Made by piriform the maker of CCleaner which rocks!

Cons:

Slow for deep scan.
Can not undelete files when a Full Format have been done,

I give Recuva 4/5 stars.

Tips for file recovery: Stop using your drive immediately. Use a seperate drive to run your Operating system and recovery software since the OS or other files might right over your deleted data on your drive making it harder for Data recovery software to recover your data.

Though much simpler solution, don't delete the file in the first place :P

This will also be good for searching for deleted files on other people's flash drives, too. But, that be illegal if you do noy have premission.

Hmmm, it be cool to make a right-click program that cut's and paste files onto a different drive instead of deleting the file then your windows drive will not slow down due to being overly full and you will not lose your files.
