Google Phone Details

Post by Skeithex »

Love it or hate it, Twitter is becoming increasingly useful for getting information and photo leaks of videogames and gadgets currently in development. On the latter end of the spectrum, this weekend was a Twitter-tastic one for the long-rumored Google-branded Android phone. The Google phone has been in development for some time, but thanks to a number of Twitter posts by Google employees, we now know a few extra details and what it looks like.

According to posts from numerous employees, the company has issued development versions of their forthcoming Android phone to staff members for feedback and informal QA. From what we've gathered, the Google phone is being developed in partnership with HTC, the makers of the T-Mobile G1, the first Android phone to hit the market. Unlike, the G1, however, the Google Phone will reportedly be sold as an unlocked, non-carrier exclusive, GSM handset and will be sold directly through Google. Because it is based on GSM networks, the only carriers in the United States capable of supporting it will be T-Mobile or AT&T.

Posts from Tech Crunch and others sites, suggest the Google Phone will pack specs like an OLED touch screen, with on-screen keyboard, two microphones, and a large built-in camera. Other rumored features include a voice-to-text transcription function, and a Snapdragon processor.

As for a release date, the Google Phone is rumored to be arriving in January of next year.

This sounds promissing. I wonder how much of the market share can the new Gphone gain vs Blackberry, Iphone, and Windows Smart Phones.
