Do you think one way link exchange are better then two way link exchanges?

One way link exchanges are link exchanges where you or your partner own two websites, but he links to you on anpther website he owns.

Instead of both linking to eachother on the same domain.

I read articles that saids search engines caught on for people using link exchanges to raise search and page ranks, and search engines care more about one way links which people link to out of kindness or as a good source for information.

I think it is better when it comes to search engines, but if his website has no visitors or low traffic then you can be lossing a lot of reffering traffic when people just click links.
