I feel more paid antivirus makers would have more users if users just pay once, and use it until it gets discontinued like how some Windows XP users kept using their XP license until it stop getting Security Updates, or still use XP today.

Or just lessen the cost, some cost way too much.

I think software costing too much is a big problem with software prices. Plus, some of the technology software owners and executives/managers are very rich. Lowing the price by $15 or more won't cause the software owners to be poor, and unable to pay for food and other basic expenses like gas and electricity.

True, though if they did keep it high, it would be great if it made the software more lightweight. Even with a SSD, a lot of AVs tend to slow down a system with a scan.

Some antivirus makers may make the scan run slower, so users think it is working harder at preventing virus, and removing existing viruses. If a virus scan is very fast, and uses very little RAM and CPU resources, some users may think the lightweight antivirus is not working hard enough at protecting their PC.

Trust me, there are people out there who do not want any slowness from their PC from a program running.

I guess laptop users are more likely to complain about slow virus scan speeds because they may not have enough power left in the battery to complete the scan.
