Hopefully, more virus makers will stop making viruses , so there are not as many new viruses.

there will always be makers, doesn't mean there has to be a lot for upgrade needs.

Hopefully, there will also be a lot of anti-virus makers which can stop most Ransomware and virus programs.
I feel some new version of viruses may have a few small changes to trick most antivirus programs, so upgrades may not need a lot of workers to make.

hopefully nothing like that, I've seen some viruses wreck a machine to a point you need to buy a new one.

I think some older computers have removable BIOS motherboard chips, so you can replace them if it breaks or it got infected by a BIOS virus.
It maybe cheaper for some users to buy a new PC than hiring a computer repair store to remove a virus, and replace a motherboard or BIOS chip which got infected with a virus.

Bios chip removal is never easy, even on older machines. Anyone looking to upgrade it is better off with a whole new unit.
