Or just have a cup that has a closed lid, not that hard to open and close a lid. Would make IT easier if people never had open top bottles around.

Using a cup with a long straw can also help stop most accidental spills onto a keyboard.

Accidents can still happen, and I've seen freak accidents.

I think some of the accidents may not be accidents. A bad employee or student can always pour liquid onto a keyboard, and say it is an accident.
I feel there maybe some people who hate a company who try to get hired for the company, and say they accidentally click on a link which contain a virus. But, they actually planned to click on a link with a virus to break a companies computers, or network.

I've seen that during my student days, cramped desks and drinks set close, all it takes is a elbow to spill something.

I imagine a sign on the table which say "no open cups and bottles" may stop some accidental spills on laptops.
