I think MSN Messenger may have fewer fun feature like chatrooms which cause it to be less popular.

I do recall it being rather slim and simple, which many didn't like.

I think the lack of some features like public chatrooms with text and voice chat in MSN messenger probably cause some people to use YIM.

True, there were camps back in the day, if you weren't using msn, then you were using YIM.

I think ICQ was a popular instant messrnger in the past.

Oh god, I forgot and remember that, it was so bad even back then lol.

I think using long numbers as usernames caused ICQ to have fewer users over time.

The sound effects and basic user interface was not good to use.
