I guess most Windows Antivirus, Firewall, and other security programs could be good enough at preventing people from downloading viruses which can infect a computer's firmware.

That and whatever patching agent most companies use to mass keep pcs updated.

I think some antivirus these days also warn users of insecure and outdated software which contain security problems.

They are good at sending update reminders or alerts, even more to make you pay more for their service.

I think some antivirus makers also warn users that their web browser add-ons and plug-ins are outadated.

They usually do, just depends on the makers. If small time, they may go away and not leave any warnings about their current stuff.

There are also third-party software updater which also notify users that some software on a PC is outdated.
