I don't trust those 3rd party software at all, too sketchy and might sneak something on.

I think there are software update notification programs which just notify you of outdated software, and you need to manually update the software to get rid of the update notification after you installed the newest version of the software.

Usually there are lots of 3rd party that try and trick you to download their stuff which works for the uneducated.

I think sometimes third-party software may also contain ads which may lead them to less trustworthy sites.

oh they do, I know lots of people who click on ads by mistake or ads that have large click boxes.

It is good that a lot of newer web browsers and antivirus now block or warn people when visiting untrustworthy sites from ads.

They try to, I think most need to be reported first to know they are bad.
