I think another reason gas is so expensive because there is not a lot of competition from other sources of energy that are renewable and cheap since most decent size cars and trucks that runs on Water, compressed air, electricity, solar power, ethanol, Biodiesal, etc are too expensive or don't exist for most people to own. Plus, Biodiesal, ethanol is expensive to make and not a lot of places sell it.
Fixing new types of car engines can be expensive and hard to fix since there are many mechanics who don't know how to fix a car that runs on water, compressed air, electricity, etc since most Automotive repair schools only teach about gas or diesal cars.
I heard on the News that the demand for gas is what is making gas also so expensive. If more people drive fuel efficient compact cars, motorcycles, scooters, ride their bike, walk, etc. There be less demand and more supply, so gas prices should be less.
Also don't quote me since most of my information comes from the Evening news and the internet. Plus, I am a IT student which is not related to Economics.
