I think another reason gas is so expensive because there is not a lot of competition from other sources of energy that are renewable and cheap since most decent size cars and trucks that runs on Water, compressed air, electricity, solar power, ethanol, Biodiesal, etc are too expensive or don't exist for most people to own. Plus, Biodiesal, ethanol is expensive to make and not a lot of places sell it.

Fixing new types of car engines can be expensive and hard to fix since there are many mechanics who don't know how to fix a car that runs on water, compressed air, electricity, etc since most Automotive repair schools only teach about gas or diesal cars.

I heard on the News that the demand for gas is what is making gas also so expensive. If more people drive fuel efficient compact cars, motorcycles, scooters, ride their bike, walk, etc. There be less demand and more supply, so gas prices should be less.

Also don't quote me since most of my information comes from the Evening news and the internet. Plus, I am a IT student which is not related to Economics.

Most people can't be bother making their own oil from fat or food waste products. They are too concerned about keeping their house clean, and I heard you need a little knowledge in Chemistry and Physics to make your own oil.

I saw a story on TV where someone who made his own oil from old vegetable cooking grease to run his diesal powered car. I think it was a VW Jetta diesal car.

Global Warming basically became a joke.

^I agree, people basicly used global warming as an excuse to buy their energy efficient products, vote for them, or tax people more.

Though, I do agree with conserving energy and resources since Electricity, gas, and resources are expensive and is needed for making a lot of the things I enjoy to use like computers, electronics, and other goods.

I really hope we get an alternate energy source soon.. I mean, for one, global warming. Most people are at least trying to go 'green' around here..

My dad said something about nuclear power, but I've heard that can be extremely dangerous?

Yes, it is danger if there is a meltdown or terrorist attack on a nuclear plant. Plus, disposing the nuclear waste is kind of dangerous to transport.

Wind, Solar, and Hydrodams are the cleanest ways to generate power.
