I feel doing online giveaways can be a better way to promote their AV and get more users for an antivirus, and users won't need to spend time using a pen to fill it out, and mailing a letter.

I think the AV makers rather include free addons than give away free AV.

I think most AV have free trials like 30 days. The giveaway AV version can have a longer amount of free time like 3 month. I feel some of the free add-ons like free online storage, and VPN would not convince many people to upgrade to a paid AV.

I think norton actually got a lot of people from its lifelock service.

A lot of store bought computers may come pre-install with Norton in the past which may help Norton become so popular.

It is too bad that McAfee and Norton does not make an uninstaller which is faster and easier to use.
