I feel some North American computer users may more likely upgrade to a more expensive version of McAfee than switch to another Antivirus brand because McAfee is one of the few big American Antivirus makers. I think Norton/Symantec and McAfee are the only two big American antivirus companies which more average users know about.

Specially with mcafee always bugging them to upgrade, though around black friday you can get the software for near cheap.

I feel McAfee may get a lot of sales from Black Friday and Cyber Monday when it is cheap, but users have to pay more when you need to re-new the license.

it usually does, I see its full package software as low as $20 where it is normally $100.

I seen McAfee being sold for free after the buyer sends in a $35 mail-in-rebate form to McAfee. I guess gives McAfee away for free, so McAfee could say a lot of people use it in advertisements, and attract more work offices, schools, and libraries to use McAfee because many bosses, workers, and users are using McAfee on their home PC.

even if a paid AV is given away free, I would be weary of getting it for free as renew costs might be higher.

I agree the renewal cost would be higher, and getting the mail-in-rebate sometimes require you to give the company your address, e-mail, and phone number.
