It is impressive how some old devices still work after so many years of regular use. Upgrading probably will be the easiest thing to do instead of looking for very old parts.

you have to wonder why some last ages while some don't even last out of the box.

I think the quality of the computers depends on who builds the computer and computer parts. There are some computer builder workers who are more careful while building computers, and there are some workers who are not careful when building computers, and don't use anti-static wrist straps when building computers.

There also area lot of cheap computer parts which may use low quality wires, and computer chips which are designed to be cheap to make, and lightweight and small to save money on shipping and handling.

I think its all mass produced by machines these days. I've seen some PCs out of the box having to be shipped right back to the maker due to issues.

I think some desktop tower computers may still be built by humans. Some more expensive Gaming and very fast desktop tower computers may not have enough buyers, so buying a robot to build a few computers may not be worth it.

It is possible for the smaller desktops, they are getting pretty tight it might be hard to make machine parts to insert the needed parts.

I think some smaller desktops still have upgradeable/removable RAM, SSD, hard drives, and CPU, and cooling fabs, so some of the parts may still be installed by a worker.
