True, some do tend to work for mass tech support companies that tend to drive people mad from how baldy it's run, but they work there to get experience.

I think some people also work at low paying tech jobs because the company is a well known company, so they feel it would look good on their resume.

Sometimes that does help as well, but most can't afford low pay checks these days.

That is true most people can't afford low wage jobs with the cost of food, and utilities costing so much. Some cheaper places may also require workers to use their personal PC for work which maybe more costly for the worker.

And the higher cost and lack of jobs, never helps and makes learning IT just as hard.

The better written IT related books also can be expensive as well.

True, its better to get high end books instead of dummy books that might offend someone.
