I think one of the advantages of open source free games and programs is that more people can view the source code to see if the file is a virus.

It may take longer than a month for some less popular games to be reviewed to see if they are viruses.

That's how they get people as the virus makers depend on that month, people will blindly download anything these days.

Virus makers can also secretly update programs at a latter time or convince users to download an infected DLC file, and many people just click the update now button without checking if the update contains a virus.

Haven't seen anyone go the infected DLC route but I'm sure it will happen.

I think PC game mods can have infected files as well, but the mod maker may accidentally add infected code to the mod by copying and pasting code and files they found online.

I hope no one is just copying random code, that can be rather bad.
