Depends how they are set up, but most VMs are setup as sand boxes so they can't risk anything.

I wonder if using a VPN connection and strong firewall program within a Linux operating system installed in a VM will block most more advance viruses from infecting Windows.

It does help protect the network than nothing, makes sure only the qualified get on.

I feel Fingerprint readers may also help prevent random people get into your computer, but I heard people can make a fake finger to fake your finger.

Yeah spy movies have proven that, but I hear a messy finger can botch the reader.

Adding a small lightbulb to shine a light on the finger may help with greasy fingers botching the reader.

It might, but might need a bit more like an alcohol wipe to ensure a clean finger.
