I like tray loading disc drive as well.
But, I feel some people slam the tray door too hard which may damage the door, spring, latch, and may damage the disc drive if they slam the door very hard. Some people may also damage the disc laser lense, and other parts when they touch the disc drive parts.
I feel the slide out tray style disc drive maybe more durable for most users who use the open/close button or a software program like a DVD player or CD burning software which had a open and close disc drive software button on the software user interface.
The laser lense and internal parts are protected inside a box in slide out tray disc drive.
When is it time to upgrade?

The air does seem to be very dusty, so preventing dust from getting on the disc drive lense is harder for many people like people who rarely vacuum their floors of dust.
A slot loading disc drive in game consoles or tray loading drives like the disc drive on Desktop tower PC can help at keeping dust out, so you don't have to clean the drive's laser lense for many years of use.

It would be a nice upgrade if you could put in a stack and that slide in, would keep more dust out that way.

A room air filtering fan may keep dust from entering a PC and the disc drive for a PC.

Air filter fans are sometimes called Air Purifiers at stores.
Most room air filtering fans are fans with a air filters made out of paper which you insert in a slot on the fan.
