				If I had the spare money and time, then yeah I would get a refurbish router and see what I could do with it, maybe even break them all down to make a better router.

				I think people who make custom router firmware may buy a lot of used and refurbished routers to test out their custom  router firmware, so they get more donations to pay for web hosting for their website which can cost a  lot of money for a high traffic website with a lot of visitors and file downloads.

				I think beta software and firmware may break routers, and it is not always easy to reinstall the original software to make it work again.

				As long as a router has a usb port, which I believe most do these day, should be easy to flash a new firmware os.

				Usually anything below $100 does not, but anything mid range to high does which is nice to have for OS flashing or extra configs for security.
