XP does seem like a default for these boot up devices, since it's lightweight and run most Windows systems.

I think XP maybe the only somewhat modern Windows OS which can run off at a CD and older USB 2.0 drive at a decent speed.

Windows 7 can, if it is bare bones 32 bit, but doesn't run well from my experience.

I think Windows 7 does not run well on older computers with less RAM, and slower single Core CPUs.

Most OS won't run on that, unless they were made back during the DOS age lol.

I think older versions of Windows 2000 may run okay on a single core CPU, and 256 MB of RAM.

Man I miss those days, these days it costs so much to make a OS run.
