Depends on the place, I know my workplace went from desktops to laptops. For personal use, I much rather have a desktop.

I think desktops are getting smaller, so the space saving of laptop are not as great.

They are getting slimmer, but not for the best as heat issues are becoming a growing concern.

I think faster spinning cooling fans can help with cooling slim desktop tower PC, but higher speed fans can be more noisy.

Very noisy, to the point it could really annoy the person just trying to enjoy their PC time.
