The Polysics started my interest.

It'd be Anime for me as well. In fact, I'd have to say it was Great Teacher Onizuka. I loved hte music from the live action version of the show too.

Edit: Just remembered, OneGai Teacher & Twins had some great openings too.

I notice Anime seem to got a lot of people listening to J-pop. Anime is so great.

I think Anime became the perfect venue for artisits to present themselves, especially globally. In Japan, they can promote themselves normally as our local bands do here. With the following anime has, this brings the opportunity to show others around the world that they can't reach under normal means.

A good example here would be, hmmn, okay, who remembers the "Rembrants"? They may have ended up a one hit wonder, but I bet without knowing them specifically, you all have heard the theme song to the tv show "Friends".

Here's another way to think of it and if you understand this, you may even laugh a bit. Think about all the people from older generations, (i.e.: your parents perhaps), that wouldn't think of listening to "Linkin Park". Okay, now how many of them have watched or would watch "The Matrix" if prompted?

I even discovered that I like a few bands like "Yellowcard" through soundtracks, but probably never would have heard of them otherwise since it's rare that I'll listen to radio.

Getting back to animes for a minute, there's another thing to consider. The Japanese love their "idols". In the casting of the voice of Naru from "Love Hina" the chose Yui Horie who had the added bonus of being a pop idol of the time. It's wild to note how many soundtracks came from that series and even the live concert, (I actually have it here somewhere). They brought out all the voice actresses in character to do the performance. It was a great show. :D

I think doing these soundtracks brings out the heart of the bands performing. They know that they're reaching into audiences that are from all over so even more effort is put into the work. When we hear them for the first time through these other mediums, we're getting the chance to hear them putting everything they have into it.

I agree with you. A lot of the music I like I learned about through aninme, movies, AMVs, and other video sources. I rerely listen to FM radio these days since there isn't much on most of the time.
