You're welcome.

Good luck with learning Joomla.

A good order for learning a new piece of software is
  • learn how to install Joomla

Backup your joomla website database, and site files (pretty easy with FTP, and joomla pack)

adding content (use JCE editor: http://www.joomlacontenteditor.net/ and use FTP to upload images to the image directory on your joomla site )

changing and editing templates, the navigation bar templates (try to avoid editing the php, html scripts if you do not know what you are doing, or atleast make a backup)

Adding modules, plugins, and components (You might have to enable the modules, plugin. in the admin panel after you install the module, or plugin)
Use the preview button before you save content or after you added a new plugin, module like a counter to your website.

It took about 2 weeks for most of the students in my class to figure it out. But, the that we made were very basic compared to other Joomla sites on the internet.

You should be able to figure out faster then most of the students in my class since you know how to edit your forum. It only took me about a week to learn the basics. Some of Joomla features are similar to forum, social networking and blog software, the default WYSIWYG editor for making content is somewhat similar to Mxproject free webhosting builder: http://www.mxproject.com/freehost/

You can subscribe to Mxproject Webhosting for 17 a year which comes with 1 mySQL database, and php support, and 1000 mb of space or find a similar hosts that also provides php, and mySQL databases.

1and1 Linux home plan been pretty good for my website, but I think it is 60 dollars a year and you need a paypal account with a credit card linked to it. A few of my friends had a hard time registering for 1and1 because they did not have a CC card. They have to borrow a friends Credit card.

I think 1and1 has a One-Click-Joomla-Install feature for its linux home plain, but I'm not sure if they updated it to 1.5 or still use Joomla 1.0

But, if you were to do it manually, it will require more steps.

1. You first need to unzip the installation files from the zip folder to your desktop.

2. Upload the Joomla folder with a FTP program like Filezilla, or winscp to your webserver.

3. Connect your domain name (www.yourdomain.com) to the Joomla installation folder on your web server.

4. Make a MySQL database and write down the info of your new database or existing data base.

Database Info you need to know to install joomla

Database name
DB Host name (sometimes a link or IP like p.s.net)
DB User name
DB password

5. type in the name of your domain.

6. then type in your database info from step 4.

7. Make an Joomla Admin account by typing a username , and password

8. delete the folder called "installion" folder in the Joomla directory then you are done.

9. now you can log in to your joomla CMS.

Hope, this is useful. You can search Youtube, or other video sites for learning more about Joomla. Joomla is one of those software you need to see how it is done to learn it easier. Videos really help when learning joomla.

The Hosting Mxproject is using is Nwh-hosting.com Mxproject has a lot of free space, so Mxproject decided to let members subscribe to hosting. All funds go toward paying for the hosting for mxproject.

You can talk to SetoTK if you have more questions about what mxproject or nwh-hosting offers. He knows more about hosting, mySQL, php, and other hosting related questions.

If you don't have a chequeing acount at your bank. You can always use those Pre-paid credit cards you buy at safeway which are like gift cards, but are not credit cards since you only have to pay money to activate the card, and the cashier help you put money into the card.

Paypal accepts pre-paid credit cards as regular credit cards. Check with paypal first since I used PrePaid CC 3 years a go with paypal and it works, I'm not sure if paypal still accept Prepaid CC.

But, there is usually a $2-5 loading fee, and the card expires after half a year which is kind of a rip off.

I recommend using a chequeing acount, or real credit card for paypal. Prepaid cards are only good for giving as gifts since the loading fees are high.
