I think a USB port can't be installed upside down on a desktop or laptop because the USB port has connector inside the port to connect it to wires and circuits on a card, so the plastic piece on the USB port is usually on the top, and the empty part is on the bottom.

Those sideways USB ports can be harder to plug in.

that is true, I actually meant when the PC it's self is turn side ways or upside down it can be hard to find the right port direction.

I see, I guest finding the right directions for USB ports on tablets with fullsize rectangle USB ports can be hard as well because people sometimes have the tablet on the sides on a stand, facing the ceiling, or facing the table.
