I read on a few tech blogs that there maybe a shortage of SSD, so the price of SSD will rise, and more people are buying them.

I don't trust using SSDs for storing data for a long time because there are reports of SSDs at http://www.zdnet.com/article/solid-stat ... -few-days/ losing its data after not being powered on for a few days which can happen if people lose power for a week, long vacation, or become injured, and can't turn on their computer until they can move their arm, or walk to their computer again.

Hrmm, that is interesting. Never knew SSD could lose things without power. That would be a big negative for me.

I agree the chance of losing data without power is a big negative for me as well. Long power outages can last for many weeks to months during a huge storm, flood and earth quake which can happen unexpectedly.

Plus, there is always a chance that you don't turn on the PS4 for a few days, weeks, or months, and when you turn on your PS4, you are surprise that your data is gone because you did not turn on your console for awhile for whatever reason.

if you own more than one console there is a good chance any of them could go a whole month without being turned on. I know I haven't touched my Wii U in nearly a month and a half now.

I think if you are a console collector which collect many game consoles, there is a good chance that you may not turn on your older consoles like the Playstation 1 and N64 for years because you own too many consoles to play, or just buy them mainly to display in your home.

I know working at a retail, we are trying to push SSD over HDD. I wonder how many know about SSD possibly failing.

I think not many people know about the SSD failing unless they read Enthusiast/Work-related Tech sites like ZDNet or ExtremeTech which cover more advance topics like SSD failing unexpectedly when there is no power, or their friend told them about SSD failure from not being powered on.

I think regular tech blog like Cnet and Gizmodo which mostly review apps, laptops, tablets, game consoles and smartphones rarely talk about topics like SSD failures. They may intentionally not talk about SSD failure since they don't want people to go back to using a old or cheaper computer with a regular hard drive which can store data for a long time without losing data even when not powered on for many years.

Many regular tech blogs make money from ads from computer makers which pays them for recommending SSDs for reader to buy.

When more people go back to using their cheaper or older computers with regular hard drives, these people maybe less likely to read a blog like Cnet or Gizmodo which mostly post about newer laptops, and tablets which uses an SSD as storage.
