iMovie free is okay for most regular users, but if you need more features, you are better off getting a paid video editor program.
There is a free video editor called Kdenlive for Linux, and it is pretty good for video editing in Linux.
A lot of people just use the basic features like adding subtitle text, voice overs, and background music with a video editor, so sometimes free video editors are good enough for many people's needs.

I didn't think a free one did all that. But I haven't used a video editor since high school, some ten years ago.
