I agree, it can be easy depending on the parts. Replacing the RAM, hard drive, cooling fan and disc drive is not too hard in most older regular sized laptops.

But, replacing things like the CPU, motherboard, keyboard and screen is more difficult.

kind of why a protection plan is good, specially when it can be abused to just get a new device for free or a lot cheaper

If you live in an unsafe neighborhood, use your laptop in public places like the public library and school, and public transportation vehicles like trains/subways, and bus, protection plans maybe less worth it because they may not cover robbery. Sometimes your stuff get stolen before you can use the warranty or protection plans,

Plus, it is not worth fighting a robber over a laptop since a lot of criminals carry around knives, hammers, and sometimes a gun, or they know martial arts like Karate or Kung-Fu, so they can mess you up if they kick you hard or karate chop you.

depends on the data, if a robber was going to steal all my data I would put up a fight.

This may not be a good idea in big cities like New York, Chicago, Detroit, etc. Robber gangs sometimes travel in groups of two or more people, and they wear regular clothing, so they can attack you from behind, or use a gun or long knife to attack victims. I saw a few news stories of people getting killed or seriously injured when a robber was robbing them of their stuff.

People should backup their data to multiple sources like USB hard drive, regular internal hard drives on desktop and server computers, and cheaper forms of storage like DVD-R disc Blu-Ray-R disc, Tape drives, USB flash drives, SD card, and printing stuff out on paper. If the data does not contain sensitive data like your health, and bank account information, using online storage, or storing your data at a family members like cousin's home is a good idea to protect your data from fires, flood, and earth quakes.

personally I wouldn't go out with anything that may indicate that I'm carrying something valuable. Jewelry and a laptop case screams robbery.

I don't go out with expensive things like laptops since there are a lot of news reports of people getting their smartphones and jewels stolen.

I agree, jewelry and laptop bags make you more likely to be a victim of robbery, and violence from robbers.

Those Game console carrying bags with Game console logos like PS4, Xbox One, and Gaming brands like Nyko on the bag screams robbery as well. If you go out and use your console carrying bag/suitcase with a built-in LCD monitor to use a game console, you are even more likely to get robbed.
