Yep, anything online is pretty much rent permissions these days.

At least, people only pay once, and use the game or software until the game and software company decides to remove access to the file.

It be nice if servers were cheaper so games could stay online longer.

I think game company may shutdown servers to make people buy new games.

They really do, once they don't make money it goes away sadly.

I think game companies may lose more money in the long run if they shutdown too many games because their fans may switch to other games which don't shutdown servers as often or at all.

True, but they tend to make more based on current popular stuff to replace old stuff and make more money.
