If the router works for them, and does not slow down their internet, I feel people should not upgrade their router unless there are security problems with their router.

At work to increase our sale profit, we've been told that security advances can make a router outdated quickly. So buying a new one can give a person a more secure network.

There is also a chance of buying a less secure router if the router has security problems like unfixed security problems in the firmware or hardware like Intel Spectre and Meltdown.

I heard some third-party router firmware like DD-WRT which is a Linux firmware is more secure than the firmware which comes with some new routers where they may re-use the old firmware without fixing security problems which exist.
