doesn't help that everything is mass produced these days, so you never know what you're getting sadly.

There are also a lot of low quality fake products which look like the real products which may also be low quality like some laptops and smartphones which have a reputation of starting fires and exploding.

then there is people like Sony who is buying a bunch of seagate HDDs, slapping their logo over the device and selling it at a higher cost.

I think buying re-branded hard drives can be somewhat risky. A regular hard drive from a company like Seagate has a warranty of 1 year or more, but some re-branded hard drive may have lower warranty length.

usually at that point they have no warranty.

I remember in the past that hard drives has longer warranties of 5 years. It is disappointing that the hard drive warranty period has become shorter or no warranty.

I'm talking off brands, the official brands don't have usable warranty, because it will only repair it if something goes wrong from a manufacture standpoint.
