There maybe some silver color SSD which look like laptop hard drives from far away. I think sticking a photo of a laptop hard drive or aluminum foil on the top of a laptop 2.5 inch SSD may trick some people into thinking it is a hard drive.

Many color printers can print realistic photos when you use glossy photo paper, so sticking a picture of a hard drive on a SSD may fool many people until they touch it or notice the photo if the hard drive is in 2D and not reflecting light like metal.

it's crazy what they can do, its like taking a screen shot of a desktop and then hiding the icons and making the screen shot the background theme.

Printer ink, paper and printer technology is very impressive these days were printed photos look very realistic.

I'd say go the extra mile and use a 3D printer, really throw people through a loop.

There are 3D Printers which can print metal, so a 3D printed case can fool many people. I feel adding a white hard drive sticker on top of the case can make the case even more believable.
