pretty sure those are just called range extenders that you plug into the wall.

I think they are called range extenders ir range booster. I also seen the word mesh networking routers which are on router boxes with two or more wireless devices to extend the signal farther.

either way people seem to buy the extenders for existing routers when they need to kick the coverage area further.

I think some people also buy more powerful USB wifi adapters for their laptops, or a better newer PCI wifi card for an older desktop tower PCs.

That's a decent option if you don't want to spend the money on a whole new setup.

I think it is very affordable to upgrade to a new PCI wifi adapter and USB wifi adapters. I seen some for sale for $10 to $20, and they sometimes come with a long antenna.

I would think for that price they might be a little cheap in the quality.
