I used the free version of VMWare called VMWare Player to run Ubuntu Linux on VMWare player.

I used it in school to install all kinds of different computer setups, would be nice if this was easier for the public to use for those who still want to use Windows 7.

There is also VirtualBox which is similar to VMWare. I think VirtualBox is popular with many users looking for a free virtual pc program.

I think that is the more basic version for beginners right?

I think VirtualBox is easier to use for beginners becsuse it has a step by step wizard program featute for setting up VM OSes.

I also use VirtualBox on slower computers with 1GB of RAM, and it can run Ubuntu Linux in a VirtualBox VM without freezing, or crashing Windows 7.

I do remember that, I didn't think Vmware was that heavy.
