I imagine North Korea may still be using tape drives which read speed is slow for installing an operating system.

Wouldn't surprise me. Though viruses can't affect tape drives (as far as I know) which makes it trust worthy.

That is true. I think CD disc don't get viruses after you burned a backup CD. I imagine poorer countries may still be using CDs for installing software and Linux OS because CDs are cheaper to make, and buy than buying USB flash drives which may get stolen by poor thieves who are desperate for money, and will sell used stolen USB flash drive for a few Dollars which can be a lot of money for poor robbers.

I know a lot of lower end countries still make use of what they can, they can't afford the latest and greatest.

I feel lower end countries may have an easier time creating CD-R disc because CDs don't contain microchips and circuit boards like USB drives.

Might still be hard for them to get disc materials.
