I feel wearing a wrist strap attach to a external drve, and wearing antistatic gloves with rubber grips could prevent most people from dropping external hard drives and backup tapes.

I don't think tape can be damaged from static electricity, not that I would test it.

I think the tape drive reader drive maybe damage by static if the static is very strong.

The tape machine can, it takes a lot of care and low humidity.

I heard if the humidity is too low, you can generate a lot of static which can damage electronic devices.

There is a certain balance that has to be kept, or all the equipment could be damaged.

I think water-resistant and dust-resistant USB storage drives and rugged computers maybe less likely to be easily damaged as easily by humidity.
