What do you think of subtitles in games like in rpgs?

Subtitles are good because i can play the games and see what the game characters are saying when i turn down the volume at night when everyone is sleeping. Plus, some voice actors have voices which are hard to understand, so i can only understand them when i read the subtitles of their characters saying stuff.
