CHIP FIRM Intel will retire single core desktop CPUs in the first quarter of next year, according to a report on Digitimes.
This is not unexpected - but it is having an effect on the channel, according to the report, with PC makers making sure they don't have piles of single cores in their warehouses.
The first dual core Celeron processor will launch in Q1 of 2008, and be called the E1200, the report claims, with 512K cache, an 800MHz system bus, and a speed of 1.6GHz.
But this will be produced at 65 nanometres, rather than 45 nanometres, although Intel is expected to introduce E4000 series chips early next year.
