GameStop Stops Selling Zunes

The Microsoft Zune has always lagged a very long way back in the popularity stakes compared to Apple’s iPods and now the brand has been dealt a serious blow as US gaming chain GameStop has dumped it.

The chain, with hundreds of stores across the US and some in Europe, said it’s dropping the Zune due to lack of demand. It was thought that the Zune would allow for cross-selling opportunities with the store’s large base of Xbox 360 and Windows PC game customers. The chain started selling Zunes back in October 2006. A GameStop spokesperson said:

"We have decided to exit the Zune category because it just did not have the appeal we had anticipated. It (also) did not fit with our product mix."

Once GameStop runs out of inventory, it’s not taking on anymore. Microsoft recently revealed that Zune sales topped 2 million, but it’s a drop in the ocean (3% of the total digital music player market) compared to how many iPods are out there.

Microsoft has not yet commented on GameStop’s decision but it’s likely to hurt the credibility of the player in other retailers’ eyes.-Martin Lynch

Exactly..it's a game store. A popular one, but a game store nonetheless. I wouldn't consider it a major blow.

Doesn't matter though, iPod has proven itself the best of mp3 players. People gotta stop copying and competing and work on something more useful. SAY, LIEK CARS WITH CHEAPER FUEL?
