Yes, people should register their own domain name and buy their own webhosting instead of just using myspace .

Sites like Myspace are good for promoting your site, but stinks at hosting a site since it is kind of limited.

Plus, making your own website with notepad, dreamweaver, frontpage, and other WYSIWYG page builders or text editors is a better way to learn about website design and building compared to using pre-made templates for social sites.

The Terms of Service on paid web hosting companies are not as strict as some of the free hosting sites, so you would not have your account deleted because the web host does not agree with your content.

A domain and basic home web hosting is about 20-60+ USD a year, but if you have good content and work hard at promoting your site, you can attract more visitors. When you have a decent amount of web traffic you can sell advertising or products on your website and make enough cash to pay off your yearly domain and web hosting bill and have spending money left over.

Free webhosts are good for testing out a website and seeing if people are interested in it. But, you should register the name of the website at Godaddy.com or 1and1.com since someone might register your name before you get the chance, and all the logo with your name will be useless since you csn no longer register your name anymore.

My teacher told me he had a student who sells sexy womans underwear to Japanese ladies on her website and she makes enough cash to get herself through school, and pay for an apartment.

there will ALWAYS be a TLD where you can register 'your name' as the domain name.

well i dont think 5 year olds have money to pay for hosting every month, or the parent is willing to do that. But yeah sure the older ones need to get their own website. I don't even use myspace as much. I'm hooked on FB since thats my only way of keeping in contact with my friends from high school.

i think your under some misconception that the '5years olds on myspace are actual 5 yr olds, they are actually 40year olds,
with a classification similar to peter file (say aloud)

Social networking sites like myspace have server there purpose, to annoy and enrage

Probably younger, or tech savy parents might be willing to pay for webhosting if their kid is actually really into webdesin and learning about web hosting and the internet.

Parents should consider having their kids learn about web design and web hosting since website building is a practical skill to have thesedays since they can posts their artwork, stories, photos, videos, and ideas online.

Having a website is not that expensive if you use a basic plan like mxproject 1000mb webhosting for $17 a year which is about $1.42 a month and a .info domain that cost like 0.99-3.00 a year to use or just use a subdomain.mxproject.com .

Plus, if the parents know about google adsense, affiliate/refferal programs they can earn back the money they spent on a domain and web hosting.

If I had a younger kid, I probably wouldn't want him on myspace or social networking sites since there are perverted and shady people hanging out there.

I think it is also easier to know what their kid is posting online if they are using their parents webhosting plan since the parents know where they upload their stuff to, and they can access their kids files and remove files and comments that are inappropriate rather then phoning myspace asking it to remove inappropriate content on their kids site since their kid refuses to remove it themself.

I'm not really into social networking. I notice I get a lot of friend requests from people I don't know or spambots who send messages like "I'm going to be on cam soon, check out my cam girl site."

Forums are my favourite kinds of sites since you get to read about peoples opinion on things.

I mostly use a telephone or MSN to keep in touch with my HS friends, or talk to them whenever we go see movies.

Well, that is not a bad idea if your kids want to chit chat with friends, but like in my case I mostly use myspace for family. There are more good then bad when it comes to using a social network.

1. It is easier to keep in touch with family. I go to my page and instantly know what all my family is up to. That is so much easier then going to 20 different websites. Especially since I usually am not interested in their pages...just what they are up to which is now announced through myspace anytime a friend add pics, changes their profiles, etc...

2. If you are trying to promote something why do all the work of getting visitors when myspace has done all the work for you and already has millions of visitors. ;) But I guess that falls into your category of having myspace to promote your website.

Other than that a website of your own is cool...but look at it this way. I've been having a website of my own for a few years now and only about 3 of my family members have ever been there and it is usually for no more then 5 minutes or they will go to my forums and only post once. Serious! Go look at how many posts my mom and brother has. lol

Social websites are good way for attracting visitors to your site, and keeping in touch with people if you don't have a lot of time. I notice some celebrities use myspace as a way to attract myspacers to thier homepage.

It be a neat idea to make a family website for only your family and close friends to use to keep in touch with eachother. But, I think if I made one some people won't use it since a lot of people I know in real life are not very Tech Savy.

A person I know removed his content on facebook and just add all the content he removed to his website. He saids most of his traffic of 100 people a day comes from Facebook.
