My teacher believe someday we all be using Google Docs and similar type programs for doing our day to day tasks since all our data be available from any computer with a internet connection.
I think ISP have to offer Fibre or T3 broadband at an competive price of 30-40 bucks a month then internet programs like google docs and Internet based OS will become mainstream. Plus, Storage needs to be cheaper since I'm not sure if there are a lot of people or companies willing to pay for storing their files online for a few bucks a month.

ye may want to google "online back up"
though entire systems used over the internet may eventually happen,
but first these systems need to go through a major breakthrough, in being able to easily edit more than just documents
Video, Audio, Images to name just a few types, while these are possible to do over the net, internet speeds need to be unbeleivably high, (up and down)
But then again, i've been known to be wrong, rarely but it's been known to happen

Most of the people I know are cheap they rather not back up their files online or offline. A guy in my class lost his family photos because he did not back up his internal drive's files to an external drives. I know some guy who does not use flash drives he just e-mail files to himself on hotmail because he is too cheap to buy a flash drive or external drive. I notice a lot of people are cheap when it comes to paying to anything tech related.
I think only really big companies like google, Microsoft, yahoo offer huge amounts of storage for free by using Ad revenue to pay for it.

Hotmail? geez may as well use 1 floppy drive to transfer 3petabytes of data.
people are cheap but there also stupid,
hardrives are available at less than 10p per gb (400gb drive costing £35.19 = 9.64p per formatted gb)

Computers at School don't have floppy drives anymore.
I also know someone who sent all their files to a friend using AIM file transfer program because they were too cheap to buy a New Hardrive before she formated her Hard drive.
People rather spend money on DVD-R or CD-R then buy a new HD. I know two people who once had their Win XP installation currupted and they used a bunch of CD-R to back up all their important files.
I think when games like Portal, Starcraft 2, Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 with a decent quality setting and frame rate can be run from an online server then online programs will take off. People would not need to carry around their game disks, desktops or laptop to play their fav. games. They can just use any internet connected computer with a decent Videocard, memory amount, and fast CPU. It sure beats playing those flash games at shockwave.com when your away from the home comp.
But, the ISP have to provide very fast upload and download speeds. Plus, a reliable connection.
