So here's a bit of brilliant statistics work for you: The Pew Internet & American Life research project has determined after endless polling and number crunching that 62 percent of American dial-up users have no interest in upgrading their connections to something a bit more peppy. In fact, only 14 percent of them would upgrade if they could. They cite high prices, barrier to entry, and -- ooh, is Survivor on? We look at it this way: if you're not already on broadband with the multitude of options, and you can get broadband (i.e. you're not stranded out in the wilderness) in one way shape or form, you probably just don't really care, and we can make fun of you because you're not reading this post anyway.

I guest most of these people just use the internet for checking text based e-mails and light browsing.

I think low-speed DSL and Cable is just $20-25 a month here in Canada. Plus, it also won't hog the telephone line when users are browsing.

Weird, but one good thing about dial up is it work when ever you need it. DSL goes out and you havr to wait until it comes back. Well with mines that is. I jsut got DSl this year, cause I moved. i couldn't get anything near it where i lived. I still have dial up too, haha when my high speed goes out i just plug it in.

Another advantage of dial-up is anyplace with a telephone line can have it. Dsl and Cable are not available at many rural or poor areas here in Canada. Though, you have to make sure you're using the right dial-up number otherwise you be paying long distance fees.

Dial up is easier to change settings to dial premium rate numbers
while these dialers are disappearing they are still doing the rounds.

Sat Broadband is available world wide, it's just seriously expensive,

ISDN is a better alternative than dial up, while based on the same tech you can get a potential 256/256kbps (Slow broadband speeds)

The Only advantage dial up has, is that it's faster than baud

Oh yeah, those dialers are pretty bad. I heard they phone 1-900 numbers where you have to pay expensive phone rates

dailers info: http://www.2-spyware.com/dialers-removal

Spybot usually take care of removing some of the dialers.

I heard bluetooth cell phones also are vulnerable to people using it to charge a high bill onto it somehow by phoning some paid telephone line.
