Windows Media player 11 have a Black screen when playing video, but there is sound.

Post by froggyboy604 »

When I play video on Windows Media Player 11, there is a blank screen, but I have sound. WMP 11 is installed on Win. Vista.

I notice if I change the default skin to the basic WMP skin the video shows, but when I use the default skin there is no video just sound.

All my other media players like VLC, GOM, KMplayer, Windows media player classic plays video fine.

okay i'll forego the obvious question of asking why you are using WMP 11.

it's a fault in WMP 11 and how it handles "certain variables" it been there since WMP 11 came out though i would just recommend using another player

easiest fix i am aware of. i am unsure though if it's caused by Aero or WMP 11 to my knowledge it is not encountered in XP (i could be wrong)

I don't really use WMP 11, but I just want to try to fix it since it's broken. I usually Media player Classic, winamp, other players.

I read some forums where people also have a black screen in WMP 11 in XP after upgrading from WMP 9 like on here http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6035_102-0. ... dID=238439

Thats upgrading which usually causes more problems than dumping the application and installing from scratch

Many companies fail on this front, because they do not take in to account many variables

For certain vids I believe you need to download Divx software to fix that issue.

you appear to have misread, it is only happening in certain views on WMP, which as i stated is an upgrade bug that is probably fixable by a full uninstallation of WMP and a reinstallation
