I find fixing my own computer. Reading about computer online a pretty good way to learn about computers and Win OSes.

Reading helps when learning about anything, though trial and error work well,

i'd say reading would be the best source but putting the theory in to practice the best way, eg create a vritual machine and screw that up as much as you like.

I find reading about computers can be kind confusing like if you got a older book it calls PATA (Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment) drives by a different names like ATA drive, Advanced Technology Attachment drive, AT Attachment drive, IDE drive, E-IDE drive, etc.

Same for software like MS Office 2007. Some people call the Tabs on the top of office a Ribbon.

I find videos of people fixing and talking about computers better like on http://freeaplus.com . But, sometimes people have distracting voice tones, and poor quality video.

The next step in learning about computers is volunteering at a place like those e-waste recycling depot with a lot of broken computers and try to fix as many broken computers as you can per day. Plus, a lot of those places let volunteer take home PC they fix, or buy them for a reduce price.

Ah varying naming conventions, yes this happens alot though generally most istes/book should have a glossary to convert these terms into those that are use generally.
