Microsoft extends XP downgrade availability to 2011. When will it end?

Hold onto your hats folks, 'cause Microsoft has just done the unthinkable and extended availability of its Windows XP downgrade option, again. This latest move, of course, follows complaints that new licensing issues with Windows 7 could cause some serious headaches for businesses still hanging onto XP, and basically force them to either stock up on XP-ready systems before April 23rd, 2010 or face the possibility of Vista-only downgrades thereafter. The new deadline isn't quite as clear cut as past ones, however, with Microsoft saying only that the XP downgrade option will be available for 18 months after the release of Windows 7, "or until the release of a Windows 7 service pack, whichever is sooner." So, as ComputerWorld notes, if Microsoft pushes an SP1 update out the door six months after Windows 7 is released, folks could well be out of luck yet again -- at least until Microsoft sets a new deadline, that is.

So they still playing the "oh go one lets extend it for the customer game" rather than just saying "we can't offer you anything better than XP and we will continure to offer XP until we are eventually sold to SetoTK for 52p"

It is too bad that this function is only available in Windows 7 and not Vista which make Vista owners feel shafted.

if W7 fails like vista did I got a feeling that MS might be holding onto XP even longer. But we will have to wait and see.

Windows XP is too good of an OS, so I think a few die hard XP users will not switch to 7. Plus, XP is a great OS for checking e-mail, office work, old school gaming, and simple stuff.

If Windows 7 price is expensive for the non-basic versions. I can see a lot of people sticking with XP Home.

XP is getting to old now, people WILL be forced to move to Win7 if they wish to stay with MS,

though more and more are moving to linux poorly. it's amazing they wipe there windows drive to install linux and wonder why they can't boot windows.

I know a lot of people who would go to linux and never turn back. but all people care about is having a OS that suits their needs. and as long as XP does that and no new versions do that people will stick to XP for a long time.
