Apparantly, some virus writer converted a Virus use to steal Pin numbers from Financial accounts, and converted it to store Kiddy porn on an infected PC's hard drive. Pedophiles can store and view perverted pictures of children on an infected PC. It can be used to prank and frame someone. If you say a virus made your PC full of Child porn, the cops might not believe you since a lot of real pedos. say this, too.

I recommend you guys scan your hard drives for viruses, and spyware. Install an up to date firewall. I wonder if this virus is only for Windows or there are multiple versions for Mac, Linux, and Unix.

how the hell can a virus put pics or vids on your computer without getting some notification?

I have no idea since I'm not very knowledgeabe on notifications. I guest the virus writer can somehow hack your system to remotely add porn on your PC. It is similar to how I can move my files from my computer to my other computers on the network with out notifications.
